February 2011 - Works update

In the last few months (the previous visit was made in November 2010) the construction works progressed considerably. Even to the untrained eye the basic structure of the building began to take shape as depicted in the technical design. The pillars have been erected and they are reaching approximately 2 meters from the basement of the ground floor. This base is raised from the surrounding ground level about 50cm (clearly visible from the photos). The engineer explained that his objective is to isolate the building from the summer heat, the ground humidity and to prevent flooding of the ground floor. The monsoons reach this region heavily twice per year: it is called the "rainy season (July-August and October-November) and it brings very heavy tropical downpours. November 2010 - Start of work

The area where we are building the new orphanage Anna Rizzotto is in the countryside. It is located in the outskirts of a village about 60 km northeast of Salem in the Tamil Nadu region in southern India. The site is close to a river bed. Not far away, about 2-3 km, a steep hill begins to rise to about 200-250 meters in height. In the rear of the property, the vegetation is very lush with coconut trees and banana plantations.
